Rise Up Raleigh Benefit w/ The Connells & 10 other acts

Rise Up Raleigh is a benefit concert for the victims of the Tornadoes that hit the Triangle in April. The show starts at 5:00 with 11 bands featuring Raleigh's own, The Connells. The Connells– Raleigh, NC (Power Pop Rock): Formed in 1984 by brothers Mike and David Connell along with vocalist Doug MacMillan. The band has 8 full-length albums including the college radio favorite Boylan Heights. Radio hits include: “Slackjawed”, “74-75”, “Get a Gun”, and “Maybe”, which they performed on Late Night with Conan O’Brien.
The Love Language– Raleigh, NC (Indie Pop Rock): Signed to Merge Records led by singer-songwriter Stuart McLamb. David Menconi (N&O) wrote in Spin Magazine: “"McLamb's songs -- a mix of moody piano ballads and bouncy guitar rock -- are aching love letters to his ex that combine the emotional directness of Big Star with the raw immediacy of Guided by Voices."
Marcy Playground– New York, NY (Alternative Rock): Their mega-hit “Sex & Candy” spent a record 18 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Modern Rock charts in 1997. The band has since recorded four albums and to date sold over 5 Million albums worldwide. One of Marcy Playground’s first shows outside of New York was at Raleigh’s The Brewery in 1996 and the band considers Raleigh to be their second home saying “This [Raleigh] is sort of where we got our start.”
The Small Ponds– Raleigh, NC (Singer / Songwriter Folk): The Small Ponds feature Caitlin Cary (Whiskeytown, Tres Chicas) and Matt Douglas (The Proclivities). Caitlin Cary has a long list of international accolades including No Depression magazines “Top 20 of the Decade” for her duet album with Thad Cockrell.
Kooley High– New York, NY (Hip-Hop): Six former NC State students. Rolling Stone wrote “Stunning North Carolina hip-hop group makes grand, thumping tracks from sliced-up soul and shards of R&B”
Young Cardinals– Raleigh, NC (Indie Rock): In the style of Kings of Leon, Black Keys, and The Verve, singer James Forgey has recently captured the attention of the Nashville music industry where he has been writing songs for feature films. An actor himself, Forgey played a lead role in the film The 27 Club which won Best Film in the Milan International Film Festival.
Aunt Martha– Wilmont , New Hampshire (Folk Rock): Selected to perform this year’s Bonnaroo Music Festival in Tennessee.
Motor Skills– Raleigh, NC (Electronic beat rock): The Independent Weekly compared the band to Radiohead and Interpol saying they were “high a top the must-watch list” this year.
Red Sonja Band– Raleigh, NC (R&B / Motown): The band is fronted by sisters, Annette and Runnette Ethridge, who recently won top 3 in Fox 50’s X-Factor Competition sending them on an all expense paid trip to Dallas (on May 26) where they will be performing for Simon Cowell in hopes of making it on X-Factor airing this September.
